Halloween is the funnest holiday for us because we get the chance to create spooky, yet cute recipes like this one! We served this up at a small get-together with friends and within minutes, half of it was gone! This cheese ball has a sharp flavor from the cheddar and a smooth texture from the cream cheese. The poppy seeds don't really have too much flavor, but give it the look we desired, so we added some freshly ground pepper to the exterior to add a little heat. The best part about this recipe is that you could alter the ingredients to suit your palate. The only thing we wouldn't change if you are serving on Halloween, is the mustard because it gives the ball its orange tin.t Hope you all enjoy!
1 pound of cream cheese at room temperature
8 ounces of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons of poppy seeds
In a large mixing bowl, combine the soft cream cheese, cheddar cheese, dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce and mix until all the ingredients are fully incorporated. You could also mix in a stand mixer with the paddle attachment. Next, lay out a long piece of plastic wrap and scoop the cheese mixture into the center of the plastic wrap forming a ball. Carefully wrap the mixture while forming into a ball. Chill the ball in the refrigerator for two hours or more.
When the ball is nice and firm, remove from the refrigerator. On a plate or flat surface, combine the pepper and poppy seeds. Roll the cheese ball over it until it is fully coated. Place the Spider's Nest Cheese Ball onto a platter and place plastic spiders on it. Serve with crackers.
