Joey as a puppy!
From the moment Mrs. P's mom texted her a picture of a puppy that a woman at her job was selling, she was in love. Joey didn't know it yet, but he was about to become the luckiest baby chihuahua in Miami by being adopted by the most loving newlywed couple he will ever meet. We had only been married for a month and already had a dog named Saki, who Mr. P had had for a few years before he started dating Mrs. P. We weren't really looking for another dog, but Joey found us.

The next day, we went to visit the puppy at the woman's house. He was still too young to leave his biological mother and we needed to think about whether or not we wanted another dog, so we waited a few days. One day, Mr. P showed up to the house with the puppy and surprised Mrs. P. She was ecstatic and named him Joey because she wanted him to have a human name.
Everyone had a great time -- except Joey! You see, he is very territorial and didn't like having all these dogs in his backyard. That was the first and last time we had a birthday party for him at our house. We've thought about having another birthday party for him this year, but we haven't decided yet. Believe it or not, Joey still plays with all of the toys people gave him for his birthday three years ago!

For Joey's second birthday, we took him on a trip to St. Augustine, Florida. This old town is very dog friendly and Joey absolutely loves to travel, so it was a perfect excuse to take a weekend trip! We stayed at Casa Solana, a pet-friendly bed-and-breakfast. It is one of the oldest houses in St. Augustine and located on the oldest street there too. Once you park your car, there is no need to drive again during your stay, unless you are going to the beach. Everything is walking distance. We just love visiting this quaint little town and always daydream about one day buying an old home and fixing it up. Joey loves it as much as we do! He is very well-behaved when we take him there. He rides the trolley, visits the San Sebastian winery, and even goes on the ghost tours with us! The restaurants there mostly have outdoor sitting and welcome pets. We absolutely love visiting!
Last year, for Joey's third birthday, we got together with some of his furry cousins at the Coconut Grove Dog Park. From the moment he arrived, he made it known that he was the boss. Our little 3-pound son has a bigger-than-life personality. He thinks he makes the rules at our house and sometimes he does! However, that is not always the case at the dog park, especially when there are bigger and badder dogs at the park. We had to keep an eye on him the entire time. Thankfully, there were no issues at the park and we all had a lovely day. We gave Joey a special collar with his name on it.
Tonight we are making Joey a peanut butter and carrot cake. This is his favorite home-made doggy treat! We will share the recipe with you all this week. It is really easy and safe for dogs to eat because there is no sugar in the recipe.

Thank you for reading Joey's story! We know that every day we spend with him is a gift and treasure every moment we have with him. Here's to at least 10 more birthdays with our little grumpy, but lovable pup!
