Today we filmed our very first television appearance on Univision's "Delicioso." Ingrid Hoffman, the host of the show, interviewed us about our blog for about 5-6 minutes on her revamped set while her guava muffins baked in the oven. She asked us plenty of questions, including our favorite dish and most-hated ingredient. It was an amazing experience to not only be guests on her show, but to be behind-the-scenes of a successful cooking program.
We anxiously arrived to the Univision set in Doral at approximately 10 a.m. We were immediately greeted by the Maggie Jimenez, the co-host of the show, who recognized us from our blog. "You guys are Mr. & Mrs. P!" she cheered, "I love your blog!" We felt like celebrities! The VIP treatment continued with a trip to the makeup room. Marla Acosta, makeup artist, did Mrs. P's makeup while Mr. P's face was blotted and made camera-ready. Anamaria Hernandez, the producer, happily introduced us to Ingrid Hoffman, the host of "Delicioso," who took the time to get to know us a little better. We chit-chatted about our jobs and our pets. Then, Ingrid introduced us to "Salsita," her Yorkie/celebrity dog. Joey would have loved to meet him!
Next, we were led to the set, which resembled a downtown Miami loft. The kitchen set was the kitchen of our dreams: stainless steel appliances, spacious counter tops, a view of the city, urban decor and so forth. The living room and dining room looked like it came out of the pages of a home decor magazine. We were in love.
The taping of the one-hour cooking and lifestyle show began shortly thereafter. We stayed and watched in awe. It's amazing how flawless everything looks on television. Viewers have no idea how many people are involved in making a production like this. It was fun to watch how much attention is put into every detail.
The theme for this episode was "how to do a lot with a little." Ingrid informed viewers on how to make a chicken and rice dinner with dessert for four people for only $17. As she seared the chicken in a mixture of butter and canola oil, the entire set was perfumed with the scent of home cooking. It smelled delicious.
It was finally time to put on our microphones and sit on the couch in the living room. We patiently sat and pretended to update our blog from my laptop while we waited for Ingrid to finish placing the dessert in the oven. It was the moment we have been waiting for since we found out we would be on the show. It had been two weeks and we had been practicing our Spanish everyday. We usually speak Span-glish (a combination of English and Spanish) when talking to our grandparents or people who don't know English.
Ingrid told us not to worry. "Pretend we are just hanging out," she said. "Yeah right! We are on national television," we thought to ourselves. Then the red light came on and we were on the spot. How did we do? Well, you have to watch "Decisioso" at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 23!
After our interview, we stayed and watched two other segments that were being filmed. Ingrid interviewed Giselle Blondet, a Puerto Rican actress, about her role in a the show "Mujeres Asesinas," which means women murderers. Sounds interesting!
The next segment was all about fall fashion. Martin Llorens, fashion expert, talked about how to transition your summer wardrobe to the fall season.
Before we left, Aliza Stern, Delicioso's culinary expert and chef, gave us a tour of the production kitchen, where most of the prepping, cooking and plating takes place.
All-in-all it was a very educational and inspiring day! Maybe we will have our own cooking show one day, but in the mean time, we will continue to do what we do best: cook, eat, blog.
