Classy Dining at Cagney's on the Epic

Hands down, our favorite NCL restaurant is Cagney's Steakhouse. The only thing we don't like about this place is that we can't have it when we are not on vacation! For $25 per person, you can dine like a star. Some may argue that is too expensive. However, if you were to have dinner at a steakhouse in Miami, you would pay that amount of money for just one side. We recommend you take advantage of the minimal charge and enjoy! You are on vacation after all!

We have sailed on NCL three times, and we make dinner reservations for Cagney's every time. We are looking forward to eating there again for our two-year anniversary cruise next year.

The atmosphere at Cagney's is swanky and romantic. It is one of the two restaurants on board that you need to dress up for. No shorts allowed here. Nice jeans are fine. The service is exceptional - better than any other restaurant or dining room on board (except Moderno, which was the best service we received on the Epic).

Although we sailed by ourselves on the Epic, our friends Andria and Michael were also cruising on the Epic the same week we were. They were on their first family cruise with their 18-month-old son Adrian. We made reservations for dinner on Thursday night at Cagney's. Andria and Michael were first-time cruisers on NCL and had never been to Cagney's. After our fantastic meal, Cagney's became one of their favorite restaurants too! The staff was great with Adrian and offered him a children's menu. Children are not charged the cover fee.

Now let's get to the food! Keep in mind that all of the food below was ordered by four people. We did not eat it all by ourselves!

The Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes appetizer was a hit at our table! The crab cakes were soft, creamy and warm. The perfect combination for crab cakes.

Mr. P always orders the Shrimp Cocktail at Cagney's. The shrimp are massive, juicy and meaty. Plus, the presentation is neat.

Andria and Michael shared the Crab-stuffed Mushrooms. We didn't try it, but they said it was very good. It sure looks good!

The Lobster Bisque is Mrs. P's favorite soup, and she is not a soup person by any means! It is so thick and creamy, it hugs you from the inside out! Lobster bisque is the ultimate luxurious comfort food. This is something that we definitely need to make at home, then share the recipe on our blog.

The girls had Fillet Mignon. "Well done, please." (I guess it's a girl thing.) Neither eat meat regularly, so this was a special treat. The meat was cooked to perfection - tender and juicy.

Mr. P ordered the Rack of Lamb with rosemary and cherry tomatoes. It had the right amount of marbling for exceptional flavor. An excellent choice.

Not only are the steaks amazing, the sides are spectacular as well. The signature Chagney's fries are dressed to impress in truffle oil and parmesan cheese. They won't disappoint. The cheesy potatoes are also one of our favorites. We apoligize for not taking photos of the sides. We were too busy eating for once!

For dessert, we tried a good amount of treats on the menu. The dessert sampler offers three little bites: cheesecake lollipops, chocolate cake and apple cobbler. Our favorite were the cheesecake lollipops. They were dipped in white chocolate. How bad could that be?

Mr. P cannot say enough about the cheesecake at Chagney's. He swears it is the best cheesecake he has ever had. He's had it all three times! You have got to try it!

Finally, the brownie sundae is yummy, but a little heavy if you ate a bit too much. We recommend the cheesecake at Cagney's, but feel free to try it all like we did.

  1. question can you eat as much as you like for the $25 like the other dining areas, also what does $25 per person cover. Thank you.

  2. Yes, you may order as many items as you wish for the $25.

The $25 does not include alcohol or soft drink. It includes, appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee. I ordered a cappuccino and it was free.

  4. Yes. It is an additional $10 for the lobster. So the cover charge would be $35.

    Thanks for the link.

  5. Mmmmm I love steak and often cook it for Darren and I. He always said he'd never had a good steak until I cooked him one, so he'll be in for a real treat here. I defintely go for medium-rare though.

Technik - thanks for the link.

  6. Thank you so much for these wonderful pictures and reviews aboard the Epic! I have been doing loads of research on this ship and came across your blog. My fiance and I are honeymooning on the Epic this June and your reviews are helping us immensely! We are real foodies and the yummy pics on your blog became instrumental in our decision to purchase the Ultimate dining package! Thanks again! Kat
